Kickstart your journey in Brisbane, heading west along the Warrego and Brisbane Valley Highway to Esk (1 hr 40 min). Start with a coffee break and a slice of local culture at Nash Gallery & Café, housed in Esk’s historic Railway Station.

Continue your drive to Blackbutt (50 min) for a taste of award-winning pies at the famed Blackbutt Bakery, then follow the D’Aguilar Highway to Kingaroy (50 min). Here, you can stretch your legs at Memorial and Rotary Parks or head up to Mount Wooroolin Lookout for sweeping views over the South Burnett region.

As the day winds down, indulge in a meal at Explorer’s Restaurant before retreating to the cosy comfort of Redrock Retreat – your perfect sanctuary in the heart of Kingaroy.

Day 2: Kingaroy to Eidsvold (227km)

Awake to the fresh country air and enjoy breakfast at Utopia Café. Dive into Kingaroy’s creative side with a visit to the Regional Art Gallery and the Heritage Museum, housed in the historic former Powerhouse.

From Kingaroy, set off for a 45-minute drive to Murgon, where a hearty lunch awaits at the Royal Hotel. Just seven minutes away along Cherbourg Road, you’ll find The Ration Shed Museum – an essential stop to learn about the region's rich Indigenous history and heritage.

Day 3: Eidsvold to Biloela (168km)

Start your day with breakfast at the Eidsvold Corner Motel Café Restaurant, then book an appointment to explore the Eidsvold Historical Complex. Dive into Australian bush history at the RM Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre and the Archer Homestead.

For lunch, enjoy a meal at Eidsvold on the Corner, then drive along the Burnett Highway to Biloela (1 hr 50 min). Along the drive stop at the Three Moon Silo art and discover the legend of the naming of the area. Once you arrive in Biloela, admire the Spirit of the Land Mural and visit the Banana Shire Art Gallery to discover local artwork.

End your day with a delicious dinner at the Grevillea Steakhouse and Bar Restaurant and then rest your legs for the night at Biloela Hotel.

Day 4: Biloela to Blackwater (240km)

Kick off your day with breakfast at the Rise Bakehouse Café, then hit the Burnett and Capricorn Highways for a scenic 2 hours 34 minutes drive to Blackwater. Once you arrive, relax with a visit to the serene Japanese Garden, a perfect place to take in the beauty of the area.

Satisfy your appetite with a tasty lunch at the Blackwater Country Club, then dive into the region's coal history. Discover the Coal Face Memorial and explore the Blackwater International Coal Centre and Australian Coal Mining Museum to learn about the town's mining heritage.

Wrap up your day with a delicious dinner at the Black Rock Inn. Afterward, enjoy a peaceful night’s stay at the inn, a top choice for comfortable and welcoming accommodation.

After a day of exploration, treat yourself to a hearty dinner at the Blackwater Mine Workers Club, where great food and a welcoming atmosphere await. Return to your accommodation for a second night at the Black Rock Inn, offering modern rooms and excellent amenities for a restful night’s sleep.

For lunch, head to the Getaway Café Restaurant & Bar for a tasty meal before you embark on a scenic 2 hour 48-minute drive along the Gregory and Dawson Highways to Carnarvon Gorge, a must-see natural treasure in Queensland.

Once you arrive, take the evening to unwind and prepare for tomorrow’s adventures at Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge. Here you can have dinner and immerse yourself in nature while enjoying comfortable accommodations (remember to book 2 days in advance as options are limited, and don’t forget to pack your own supplies).

Day 8: Carnarvon Gorge

After the hike, enjoy a well-deserved dinner before heading out on a captivating Guided Night Safari Tour. Return to the Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge for a restful night’s sleep, ready for tomorrow.

Day 9: Carnarvon Gorge to Roma (242km)

Kickstart your day with a delicious breakfast in the Alfresco Dining Area, surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of Carnarvon Gorge.

After you’re fuelled up, embark on the scenic Mickey Creek Gorge Walk, a 3km trail that takes you past the tranquil Rock Pool. Stop to dip your feet in the cool waters and enjoy a peaceful morning tea, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.

Once you’ve soaked in the serenity, head to the Wilderness Restaurant for a leisurely lunch or opt for a relaxing picnic in the heart of the gorge, surrounded by lush greenery.

Refreshed and recharged, hit the road for a scenic 3-hour 13-minute drive along the Carnarvon Highway to Roma. Finish the day with a hearty dinner at the Roma Explorers Inn.

Day 10: Roma to Miles (141km)

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Rex – Coffee + Food, a local favourite offering a diverse menu for every taste. After you’ve fuelled up, head to the Roma Saleyards (available for tours on Tuesdays, starting at 8:30am – make sure to arrive by 8:15am).

Next, visit the Big Rig for a self-guided tour to uncover the fascinating history of oil and gas in the region. On your way to lunch, don't forget to stop and snap a photo with Roma’s Largest Bottle Tree – a true icon of the area.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at ROYAL on Ninety-Nine, where you'll find a satisfying meal and great atmosphere. In the afternoon, take the scenic 1 hour 33-minute drive to Miles. On your way through stop in at the Calico Cottage Heritage Complex in Wallumbilla and enjoy some locally baked treats.

Round off the day with a delicious dinner at the Windsor Hotel Restaurant – there you can also stay the night!

Day 11: Miles to Dalby (127km)

Kickstart your day with breakfast at The Creek Café. Dive into the rich heritage of Miles at the Miles Historical Museum, where you’ll find fascinating exhibits that showcase the town’s history. For lunch, head to the Coachman Hotel for a delicious meal before continuing your adventure.

After lunch, drive over to Chinchilla and snap a memorable photo at the iconic Big Watermelon. Then, make your way to Dalby (1 hour 30 minutes), where a stop at the Visitor Information Centre will equip you with a brochure for the town's Heritage Trail.

Embark on this self-guided tour to uncover the stories and landmarks that define Dalby’s past. As evening sets in, enjoy a satisfying dinner at Kobbers Motor Inn, where you can also settle in for a restful night in their cosy accommodation.

Day 12: Dalby to Toowoomba (83km)

Kick things off with a delicious breakfast at The Urban Paddock, where fresh, local produce is the star of the show. After filling up, head over to Dalby Saleyards for a glimpse into the town’s farming culture, and then enjoy the contemporary artwork at MyAll 107 Gallery.

For lunch, make your way to the Country Club Hotel for some hearty local favourites, and then hit the road for a scenic drive to Toowoomba (just 1 hour 5 minutes away).

Once in Toowoomba, take a leisurely stroll through the Laneway Street Art Crawl, starting at Ground Up Espresso Bar, and soak in the creative vibes of the city's hidden art gems. Follow that with a relaxing walk through Queens Park, a beautiful botanic garden that's also a state heritage site.

Next, enjoy a leisurely visit to Picnic Point for stunning views and a relaxed lunch at the on-site restaurant. Afterward, take a scenic 47-minute drive to Cunningham’s Crest Lookout near Laidley. Here, immerse yourself in the Laidley Heritage Trail, where you can discover fascinating murals, sculptures, and mosaics that tell the unique story of the region.

End your day with a delightful dinner at the Queensland National Hotel, offering a perfect blend of local flavours and a relaxed atmosphere. Stay the night at the Queensland National Hotel for a comfortable and convenient rest.

Day 14: Laidley to Brisbane (85km)
