Toowoomba
A stunning concert full of beauty and virtuosity, brought to life by Camerata and acclaimed pianist, Alex Raineri. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture is one of the most thrilling and dramatic overtures in Classical Music. You’ll be captivated by Beethoven’s ability to evoke Coriolan’s inner conflict between the 15th Century warrior’s determination to wage war on Rome and his mother’s protests from the sidelines. All this, through some of the most virtuosic and exciting orchestral music – a truly exciting way to start the year! Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, a symphonic poem lovingly composed as a birthday gift for his wife after the birth of their son, Siegfried, begins gently, almost like waking on a soft, slow morning. You’ll hear sweet birdsong, dreamy melodies, and heartfelt tenderness beautifully symbolising the intimacy and love between the couple. Finally, Beethoven’s famed Piano Concerto No. 1 will be superbly interpreted by acclaimed Brisbane-based pianist and Artistic Director of Brisbane Music Festival, Alex Raineri. This relatively early work exudes all the characters and flaws of this masterful composer, from the stereotyped slobby, scowling genius to the tender, sensitive man who also had a penchant for playing practical jokes on his friends. In Camerata & Alex Raineri: Beethoven, Camerata will also be joined by our winds, brass, and percussion sections and our well-loved Wild Card Mystery Segment, without a conductor in sight.
